Organic Compounds and Biostimulants

Enzymes and hormones are proteins. While all living cells produce enzymes and hormones, enzymes themselves are not alive. They function by altering other plant molecules by combining to form a complex molecular structure in which chemical reactions talce place.

The enzyme and the hormone are true catalysts and separate from the product of the reaction. Enzymes speed up biochemical reactions within the plant and by doing so, provide a chemical pathway along which the overall reactions can proceed far more rapidly than it otherwise could. On the other hand hormones regulate chemical activities within   the plant.

It is the structure of the enzyme or the hormone that enables them to cause certain chemical reactions in other molecules. Although enzymes are proteins, some must be attached to certain nonprotein molecules, like micronutrierits (copper, iron or zinc), in order to function. Others are organic compounds called coenzymes -many of which consist of necessary vitamins. Micronutrients are necessary for the work of enzymes and hormones and are a vital component of any effective exogenously applied biostimulant.
